Gutter Cleaning — Moor Street, Fitzroy

A two-storey townhouse in Fitzroy, mid-winter, with roughly 40 metres of guttering buried under broad dried leaves. Water was already standing in the channel when the crew arrived — the outlet had stopped taking it. One technician cleared the run with a vacuum pole, worked the silt and moss out of the channel and opened the outlet. Just under two hours on site.

The problem

The gutter runs hard against the neighbouring brick wall in a continuous terrace row, so there is no gap to work from and no safe way onto the roof. Standing water in a blocked channel finds the seams, and on a two-storey elevation whatever escapes runs down the wall below.

What we did

With no roof access, the run was worked from ground level with a vacuum pole. Leaves came out first, then the silt and moss underneath, which is what holds the water once the surface debris is gone. Green staining along the lip showed the water had been sitting for a while, so the whole length was flushed, not spot-cleared.

  • Full gutter run vacuumed clear of leaves, silt and moss
  • Channel worked back to bare metal along its full length
  • Outlet cleared and checked separately for free flow
  • Run flushed end to end rather than spot-cleared
  • Worked from ground level, no roof access required
  • Before and after photographs supplied

Result

  • Standing water cleared, outlet taking water freely
  • Silt and moss removed, not just the surface leaves
  • No access needed onto the roof or neighbouring property
  • Two-storey wall protected from further overflow
