Gutter Cleaning — Wellington Street, St Kilda
A single-storey home in St Kilda with 54 metres of Colorbond guttering that had filled with leaves and seed pods until almost no channel was left for water. A two-person crew cleared the full run with a gutter vacuum, worked the seed pods out of the gutter base by hand, and checked every downpipe before leaving. The problem
Seed pods are the harder problem. They wedge into the gutter base and around the outlets, so water backs up long before the gutter looks full. Melbourne summer storms deliver heavy rain in short bursts, and an overloaded gutter spills over the fascia.
What we did
Debris was drawn straight into the vacuum rather than scraped loose and dropped around the house. Vacuum extraction also avoids dragging tools along the gutter base, which wears through the Colorbond coating. Each downpipe was then checked separately, because a clean gutter feeding a blocked outlet still overflows.
