The problem
Around thirty panels on the roof of a four-storey apartment building had gone uncleaned long enough to lose output. Soiling on an array is rarely even. Dust settles heaviest along the lower edge of each panel, where the frame traps runoff, and that band shades the bottom row of cells. Because cells in a string carry the same current, the dirtiest panel sets the ceiling for the rest.
What we did
The work was booked by the body corporate, so one visit had to cover the whole array rather than a single owner's share. Equipment was carried up to the fourth-floor roof and all panels were cleaned on site. Height changes what the job needs more than the cleaning does: everything has to be carried up and secured, and the set-up at that level is a real part of the two hours.
