Gutter Cleaning — Pine Needles on a Concrete Tile Roof

Needle build-up behaves nothing like leaf fall. A leaf lies flat and eventually breaks down; needles interlock into a mat that keeps its shape and holds its water. Because each one slips through a gutter guard, mesh does not stop them — it puts the mat underneath, where it is harder to reach.

A needle mat has to be lifted out, not flushed: water passes straight through it without moving it. Twigs came off first, then the felted layer underneath, and the channel was taken back to bare metal. The moss on the tiles above is the other half of the story — a concrete tile roof holds moisture, and what grows on it keeps feeding the gutter below.

• Twigs and coarse debris removed first
• Felted needle mat lifted out along the run
• Channel cleared back to bare metal
• Outlets checked once the run was open
• Roof surface checked for the source
