Gutter Cleaning — Sussex Street, Brighton

A double-storey home in bayside Brighton, booked in mid-winter, with 60 metres of Colorbond guttering silted up with leaf litter — the outlets worst of all. One technician cleared the runs and then the outlets separately, opened every accessible downpipe and flow-tested the system. Two hours on site, with before and after photographs supplied.

The problem

Debris settles wherever water slows down, so outlets and internal corners block first while the straight runs still look passable. Melbourne winter rain is persistent rather than heavy, so a partly blocked system never dries out and standing water sits against the seams.

What we did

On a double-storey house the gutter line is out of reach from the ground, so the work was done with a vacuum pole rather than by walking the roof. The runs were cleared first, then the outlets, which needed separate attention once the surface debris was gone. Loose material was pulled back from the roof edges so rain would not wash it back in.

  • Gutter runs vacuumed clear of leaf litter and fine debris
  • Outlets and internal corners cleared separately
  • Accessible downpipes opened and checked individually
  • Loose debris removed from roof edges
  • Flow test across the full system
  • Before and after photographs supplied to the client

Result

  • Full drainage restored through runs, outlets and downpipes
  • Standing water cleared from seams and fixings
  • System clear for the rest of the winter rainfall
  • No debris left around the property
